Sneak Peek

Here is scene from my current book project. It is still in the very early stages; and this scene has been on my cloud for several years, now. 😉

“Eden, Thea. Wake up. A guest has arrived. We need your help downstairs right away.” Their father shook Eden and her younger sister out of  deep sleep.  Eden rolled over and tapped her sister on the shoulder.

“Thea wake up . You heard father, he really needs our help.” Eden keep trying to wake her sister as she rushed into her slip and simple a-line brown calico dress. Eden pulled Thea gently out of bed and put her dress over her nightgown. Eden grabbed her hand, and raced down hallway, the wooden staircase creaking. Eden was so cuffed walking into the front hallway. Father and Lance usually take care of late night guests.  Eden could not recall a time  her father asked.

Eden saw a young man who must have been the age of Lance, her eldest brother, just three years her senior. Eden’s mother was propping his left leg up onto a chair. His bone was sticking through his lower leg; blood was caking as it dried around the fracture. Eden swallowed bile that coursed its way up her throat.

“Father, has anyone gone for Dr. Emor, or bandaged his head? It looks like it’s still bleeding. He needs to be taken care of. Father? Mother?”

“Lance has gone to get Dr. Emor. Eden, sweetie. Please go get one of the rooms on this floor ready with your sister. And try not to scold her. She is much younger than you.” Eden was glad Ker sister was still in a daze from waking up. She knew and her father father knew that she was too young to see this.

“Father, where is Will?” Eden asked as my sister obediently walked to make up a room.

“Will you stop asking questions, and do as you’re told?” Eden’s father turned to help their mother, wrapping the man’s head.

“Yes Father.”
